Players Sore with Colds
GAIS has taken a few setbacks ahead of the Sunday match against a strong Hammarby at 3 Arena. Joachim Fagerjord and Christos Gravius have both caught colds and were not present at the team's last training before the trip to Stockholm. Fagerjord, the midfield general, is not completely ruled out by coach Fredrik Holmberg.
- Jocke we’ll see if he’s in tonight, says Holmberg.
It may be that the star travels to Stockholm on his own.
- We rule nothing out. It could be a train trip or anything. It could be a flight, helicopter, says “Fidde” with a grin.
The illnesses remind the Gais coach of the covid-19 season, when they learned a lot about hygiene.
- It’s about pulling out the old knowledge. I’ll be wearing a mask there tomorrow, jokes the coach.
Mergim Krasniqi and Wendin Thomasson
Also Robin Wendin Thomasson and goalkeeper Mergim Krasniqi are affected.
- Wendin will get some treatment now, so we’ll see.
Krasniqi says he has had foot problems since the match against Halmstad a little over two weeks ago, but should be fit for Sunday.
- It’s nothing serious, but it’s something that’s nagging in the foot.
Having the goalkeeper available against Hammarby, who have a 7-0 goal difference in their last two matches, is important. Only Hammarby have conceded fewer goals than Gais in the Allsvenskan this season, and Krasniqi has been highly praised.
- He’s brilliant. He’s so damn good. He’s only getting better and has high standards. He’s needed in every way, concludes Holmberg.
Returning Players
Two players who have returned from injury are Mohamed Bawa and Blessing Asumang. Both are traveling by bus to Stockholm. Whether they are included in the squad depends on the status of Wendin Thomasson and Fagerjord.
