GAIS has been fined by Uefa for pyrotechnics during their home match against Nordsjælland in the Conference League qualifying round. The club must pay up to 400,000 kronor in fines.

What happened?

During the home match against Nordsjælland, 42 pyrotechnic devices were lit on the stands. At the same time, objects were thrown onto the pitch in connection with GAIS' goal and several banners with what was interpreted as provocative messages were also pointed out.

Why is it important for GAIS?

GAIS' security chief Erik Bergkvist states that it's a lot of money for the club to pay in fines. He notes that it's an ongoing process now where they get to express themselves in the matter and point out the measures they had taken proactively.

What happens next?

GAIS has already been eliminated from the Conference League qualifying round after losing 6-1 to Danish Nordsjælland. Now, Uefa chooses to sanction GAIS in connection with the home match on Gamla Ullevi, which the Gothenburgers won 1-0.

GAIS is currently 9th in the Allsvenskan with 23 points after 17 matches. The team has scored 21 goals and conceded 16 (+5 goal difference). Andreas Hermansen is currently sidelined.
