Nikola Vasic was the hero as GAIS secured a convincing 3-0 away victory over Mjällby AIF on Saturday. The 34-year-old forward scored his first two goals for the club since his summer transfer from Hammarby.
Vasic opened his account in the 54th minute following an assist from Dennis Collander. Just five minutes later, he netted his second of the night. Joackim Åberg had already given GAIS the lead in the 13th minute.
After the match, Nikola Vasic expressed an incredible joy and a feeling that it was going to happen.
The win handed Mjällby manager Andreas Brännström his first defeat since returning to the club. "It's a sigh," Brännström stated.
The victory solidifies GAIS's mid-table position in the Allsvenskan. The team sits tenth with 30 points from 22 games. They have won three of their last five matches and have a goal difference of +8.
For GAIS, this marked a third consecutive away win, following earlier big victories against Husqvarna and Brommapojkarna. The current squad includes top scorer S. Salter, who has six goals this season. Róbert Frosti Thorkelsson is currently sidelined with injury.
